Where we are
Porto San Paolo is a small seaside resort that with Loiri, form the homonymous municipality. Located about 15 km from Olbia, legend has it that the village took this name because here landed San Paolo. The area was not very populated because the coast was unsafe due to the continuous barbaric landings, even malaria was one of the causes of the poor population; Porto san Paolo, like many coastal areas of Gallura, was only beaten by smugglers for their traffic. The number of inhabitants of the place was very poor, few families dedicated to fishing and agriculture, these were joined by fishermen at the beginning of the 900, especially Ponza, who settled here permanently creating a small Sardinian-Ponzese community. The area of Porto San Paolo is certainly among the most beautiful places in Sardinia, the small coves with its crystal clear waters have made it a sought after tourist destination since the late 70s. The panorama that can be admired, with all ' horizon the island of Tavolara is unique in the world. The best moment to discover the beauties of Porto San Paolo is certainly early in the morning. Still in the air you can hear the typical frigid air of the coastal areas and the sea is so calm that it seems still. Walking towards the small port, you can see the fishermen's boats come back and chat with them, a way to get to know the life of those who still do this very hard job. Strolling along the little pathways that give onto the coast, one is always surprised by the variety of the colorful nature, the perfumes of the bush and the animals that one can be lucky to see. Porto san paolo also has a small pond, easily accessible. Going along the coast you get to a lagoon; here nothing is taken for granted: the limpid and warm water, so low that you can see the crabs very well, then the surrounding nature union of Mediterranean scrub and pond vegetation. The ancient rock formations, immobile, are opposed to the movements of the tide that make this territory perpetually changeable and the small islets and coves disappear into the water. A small paradise that makes the area of Porto San Paolo even more beautiful.
